Passage West Town Council submission to Port of Cork's proposed move to the Lower Harbour
Following the refusal by An Bord Pleanala for its proposed container
terminal at the Oyster Bank, Ringaskiddy, the Port of Cork is now
revisiting potential sites available in the Lower Harbour to which to
relocate its container and bulk loading activities. Of the 12 sites within the Harbour investigated, the Port has identified 5 as being most favourable. Three of the five are at Ringaskiddy, one is at Marino Point and another at Dognose. Over the past few weeks, the Port has been meeting with interested stakeholders and has held an Open Week at the Port of Cork offices on Customs Quay. All stakeholders and members of the public have been invited to make submissions outlining their opinions on and reactions to the Port's proposals.
On 4th February, the Port met with Passage West Town Council. During this meeting, the Port outlined the reasons for its proposed move from Tivoli and the City Quays, its progress to date and its anticipated timeline for finalisation of the relocation plans. Members of Passage West Town Council met on 9th March to discuss their reactions to the Port's proposals and to formulate an official submission from Passage West Town Council.
