Monkstown Golf Club was founded in 1908 as a 9 hole golf course with its clubhouse in Monkstown Castle. When the course was extended to 18 holes in 1971, a new clubhouse was constructed. The course was further extended in 1994 to include some interesting water features.
The Monkstown course is demanding parkland for golfers of all levels and the greens are noted as being amongst the best in the country. The original nine holes offer panoramic views over Monkstown Bay, Haulbowline Island and out as far as Roches Point at the mouth of Cork Harbour. Majestic old trees lend a stately air to the course, a reminder of the distinguished history of the club.
Monkstown Golf Club is an 18 hole course over 5,640 metres. The course is open seven days and is playable from dawn until dusk. Neat dress code is required; denims are not permitted.
Both restaurant and bar facilities are available in the clubhouse offering snacks, lunch and dinner. The clubhouse can be hired for events.
Motorised buggies, motorised caddy cars and clubs can be hired at the golf club. A club shop, ladies and gents locker rooms and driving range are also available.
